Finding the Right Balance in your Life


To me, finding the right balance between your personal relationships, work and leisure time is the key to a happy, fulfilling life.  I have always maintained a healthy balance between my work, family and health and continue to do so to this day.  Despite at one point working 2 jobs and studying part time, I still made time for my family, friends and myself whilst maintaining my general health and well-being.  I always make an hour day to exercise for example (usually first thing in the mornings).

Suppose you invest time and energy to add another $1000 to your wealth.  Would you sacrifice as much to make another $1000?  Due to the law of diminishing returns, most people won’t. Would you sacrifice your health, be more stressed, lose sleep or skip exercise for the sake of more wealth?  If you are like me, I would invest more time and money on my general health by exercising more and watching what I eat.  For most of my life, I have always dedicated an hour a day to improving my fitness by running, swimming, martial arts and going to the gym.  I think of an hour of exercise as a day less spent in a hospital.

To find the right balance in your life, list the 3 most important things in your life and prioritize them (but don’t neglect any of them).  So for me, it’s my friends and family, health and my career/side hustles.  In this case, I will always make time in the evenings and weekends for my family and friends around my work time.  Exercise is always first thing in the morning.  And how did I start my blog and also have time to work as a part time Naval Reservist?  I traded my junk time (i.e. watching television) or eliminated this completely at times.
